How the compliance scanner works
The scanner runs your listing text through a deterministic, rule-based engine that checks for five categories of compliance risk. Unlike AI-only tools, the core scan does not rely on language models — it uses curated pattern matching against known risky terms, brand databases, and policy-derived rules. This makes results predictable, fast, and reproducible.
Trademark detection
Checks titles, descriptions, and tags against a curated list of 500+ protected brand terms sourced from USPTO and WIPO databases. Each flagged term includes a severity rating and a safer alternative suggestion.
Prohibited items check
Scans for language associated with restricted product categories including weapons, drugs, tobacco, alcohol, and hazardous materials. Flags wording that could make a listing appear to violate Etsy prohibited items policy.
Medical claim detection
Identifies wellness and health claims that imply treatment, cure, prevention, or diagnosis. These claims can trigger FDA-related policy reviews even for handmade or natural products.
SEO quality scoring
Evaluates tag count, title length, description depth, and keyword distribution. A low SEO score does not mean a policy violation, but it indicates the listing may underperform in search results.

Is the scanner free to use?
Yes. Free accounts include 5 scans per month. Each scan checks one listing across all compliance categories. You can upgrade to Pro or Business for higher scan limits and additional features like AI suggestions and appeal letter drafts.
Does the scanner edit or publish my Etsy listing?
No. The scanner only analyzes the text you provide and generates a compliance report. It does not connect to your Etsy account, edit any listings, or publish anything on your behalf.
What is the difference between the scanner and the AI rewrite tool?
The scanner is a rule-based engine that detects compliance risks. The AI rewrite tool is a separate, optional feature that generates safer alternative wording for flagged terms. The scanner runs first; AI suggestions are only generated when you explicitly request them.
Can I scan listings that are already published on Etsy?
Yes. Copy the title, description, and tags from your published listing into the scanner fields. The scanner works with any text regardless of whether the listing is live, in draft, or being planned.
How accurate is the trademark detection?
The trademark database is curated from USPTO and WIPO records and is updated regularly. It covers 500+ commonly flagged brand terms. However, no scanner can guarantee 100% coverage of all protected marks worldwide. Use the results as a strong starting point, not a legal guarantee.
Will a clean scan guarantee my listing will not be removed?
No. A clean compliance scan reduces your risk significantly, but Etsy policies change over time and enforcement is not always consistent. The scanner is one layer of protection — not a legal guarantee.
